Hospitality¶
Restaurants, cafés, bars, and hotels can use VM Number to accept payments and tips with Vipps or MobilePay—no card reader needed. Shopping basket fits menus and fixed prices; open amount fits tips, split bills, or pay-what-you-want.
When VM Number fits hospitality¶
- Table payment — Customer pays the bill by entering your VM Number and the amount (open amount) or by selecting from a short menu (basket).
- Tips — Staff or venue share a VM Number; customers tip by entering the amount in the app (open amount).
- Bar or café — A small menu or price list in the app; the customer selects drinks or items and pays the total (shopping basket).
- Takeaway or counter — Same as above: basket for fixed items, open amount if you tell them the total.
You can use the same VM Number for both: e.g. basket for the menu and open amount for tips.
Using shopping basket in hospitality¶
For menus and fixed prices (food, drinks, set combos):
- Add your items and prices to your VM Number catalogue (e.g. "Espresso", "Lunch special", "Beer").
- Display your VM Number on the table, at the bar, or on the counter.
- The customer opens the app, enters your number, picks what they had, and pays.
Keep names short and aligned with your actual menu. Update the list when you change offerings or prices.
Using open amount in hospitality¶
For variable amounts (full bill, tips, rounding):
- Tell or show the customer the amount (e.g. on the bill or verbally).
- Give them your VM Number. Use a reference like "Table 7" or "Order 42" so you can match the payment.
- They enter the amount in the app and pay.
Useful for: settling the bill, tipping, or when the total isn't from a fixed menu (e.g. custom orders).
Best practices for hospitality¶
- Show the VM Number where customers pay — Table tents, counter stickers, or on the receipt so they don't have to ask.
- Use references for open amount — Table number or order ID so you know which bill or table the payment belongs to.
- Keep the menu list manageable — In basket mode, focus on the items customers actually order via the app; you can limit to bestsellers or the current menu.
