Best Practices¶
These guidelines help you get the most out of VM Number and give your customers a smooth payment experience.
Make your VM Number easy to find¶
Your customers need to see your VM Number where they pay. The easier it is to find, the faster they can complete the payment.
- At the point of sale — Display the number on a sign, sticker, or screen at the counter or checkout.
- On receipts and bills — Print the number on receipts so customers can pay later or split bills.
- In your venue — Use table tents, posters, or window decals where relevant (e.g. cafés, events).
- Online — If you direct customers to pay by VM Number, show the number clearly on the relevant page or in instructions.
If you use a QR code that links to your VM Number, place it where customers can scan it easily without blocking others.
Communicate the amount clearly (open amount)¶
In open amount mode, the customer enters the sum. To avoid wrong amounts or confusion:
- Show the amount — Use a receipt, screen, or bill so the customer sees exactly what to pay.
- Say it out loud if needed — For example: "The total is 150 kroner; you can pay with Vipps or MobilePay using our number."
- Use a reference — Add a table number, order ID, or name so you can match the payment to the right order or customer.
Keep your basket simple (shopping basket)¶
In shopping basket mode, your product list appears in the app. Keep it easy to scan and use.
- Short, clear product names — Use the same names your customers know (e.g. "Latte", "30 min massage"). Avoid long descriptions or internal codes.
- Correct prices — Update your catalogue when prices change so the customer always sees the right total.
- Focus on what's relevant — Include the items customers actually pay for via VM Number. A very long list can be harder to use; you can rotate or limit items if needed.
Match the mode to the situation¶
- Open amount — Use when the total varies (tips, donations, custom orders, or when you tell the customer the amount on the spot).
- Shopping basket — Use when you have fixed products or prices (menus, price lists, tickets, small catalogues).
You can use both with the same VM Number for different situations—e.g. open amount for tips and shopping basket for your menu.
Train your staff¶
If staff are involved in taking payments or guiding customers:
- Make sure they know your VM Number and where it's displayed.
- For open amount: they should know how to tell the customer the amount and, if applicable, the reference.
- For shopping basket: they can point customers to the app and your product list.
A short internal guide or cheat sheet can help keep this consistent.
