Shopping Basket¶
In shopping basket mode, you define a catalogue of products or items with fixed prices. The customer sees this list in the Vipps or MobilePay app, selects what they want, and pays the total. You don't need to tell them the amount—the app calculates it from your prices.
When to use shopping basket¶
Shopping basket fits when you have a clear, fixed set of offerings and prices. Typical examples:
- Menus — Food and drink with set prices; the customer picks items and pays the total.
- Price lists — Services or products with fixed rates (e.g. treatments, items in a small shop).
- Event tickets or add-ons — Fixed ticket types or merchandise.
- Small product catalogues — A limited range of products with set prices.
If the amount changes every time and isn't tied to a fixed list (e.g. tips, donations), open amount is usually more suitable.
How it works¶
- You set up your catalogue — In your VM Number configuration, you add products or items with names and prices. You can update this list when your offerings or prices change.
- You share your VM Number — Customers use it to pay you via the app (e.g. at the counter, on a poster, or on your website).
- The customer opens the app — They search for your business or enter your VM Number (or scan it if you use a QR code).
- They see your products — Your catalogue appears in the app. They select the items they want; the app shows the running total.
- They confirm and pay — The customer pays the total in one go. You receive the payment according to your agreement.
You maintain the product list; the customer only chooses and pays. No need to communicate the amount manually—the app does it.
Setting up your catalogue¶
Your product list is managed in your VM Number setup (e.g. via the business portal or integration). You typically define:
- Product name — What the customer sees (e.g. "Espresso", "Consultation 30 min").
- Price — The amount per unit in your currency.
Keep names short and clear so they're easy to read in the app. Update prices when they change so the customer always sees the correct total.
Best practices¶
- Keep the list focused — Show the items that are relevant when paying by VM Number (e.g. popular menu items or services). Very long lists can be harder to use in the app.
- Use clear names and correct prices — Avoid jargon; use the same names you use with customers. Double-check prices before going live.
- Display your VM Number where customers pay — So they can quickly open the app and find your number.
